Rachel and Amy’s Sad Trombone list (part 1)

Right now Amy, my lovely Editor, and myself are in love with Gala Darling’s Sad Trombone list, for those who don’t know of the list in a nutshell it is a list of 101 things that you can do to cheer yourself up, it’s so refreshing that just reading it makes us smile. This inspired us to write our own

Watch the cheesiest movies with a best friend or sister, quoting and singing optional

Text everyone in your phonebook simply “I love you”

Try and speak another language, especially if you don’t know it, tweetdeck or Google translators are a godsend

Go to starbucks, get a hot drink and walk around town with it

Go hunting for clothes you will never buy or afford

Take a trip to the cinema with a best friend, if you can’t remember the film from laughing so much you know it was a good trip

Write a really trashy fic then change the main characters name from your own right before posting it

visit your favourite relative

wear your favourite clothes, even if you’re not going out of the house

Make a new playlist on Spotify or iTunes of songs that make you happy or dance

Google “inspirational quotes” and copy the ones you like best down on to biiiiiiiig paper using bright highlighters

Spend hours trying to get your favourite celebrity to tweet you back

Flirt with random people you come across on twitter

Walk the streets stroking random cats and sniffing random flowers, singing under your breath just that little bit too loudly

Draw stars on your face with eyeliner

Sing power-ballads

Wear dark glasses and a polo-neck top out of the house. Pretend to be a spy, staring strangers out.

Make a new friend.

Spend a forever on YouTube, just clicking through videos at random. Favourite every single one.

Write a letter to yourself, reminding you of everything that’s great in your life.

Write a letter to yourself, ranting everything crap in your life out.

Post them to random addresses, without a return address, and imagine people’s reactions to them.

Watch kids shows and remember how much better they used to be when you were young

Go out to a club, stay sober and dance alllll night

Get up early on a Sunday, watch funhouse on challenge TV and eat cocoa pops- just like old times

Visit the beach no matter what time of year it is, just for fish and chips

If it’s raining, grab your wellies and go and splash in some puddles
If it’s snowing, build snow people, and dress them in your old clothes

Go to the park, and have a go on the swings and slide. Grab a friend, and go on the seesaw… even if people can see you.

Invent a new cocktail.

Learn how to make a super-duper chocolaty dessert and the LICK THE BOWL OUT!

Put the Christmas decorations up in June

Turn your computer off for a whole day and just read books, with a good cup of tea

Get out a lipstick and write “You ARE beautiful!” on your mirror

Listen to the kind of music you secretly love, but would hate for anyone to know about. We recommend “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful?” by Kellie Pickler, “Crazy Dreams” by Carrie Underwood and “Butterfly Fly Away” by Miley Cyrus

Dig out your old boy band albums and dance like crazy around your room – we suggest McFly’s first album room on the third floor.

Take part in NaNoWriMo, or if November’s no good for you, pick your own month and do your own.

Do your makeup extremely and take pictures.

Watch a documentary about your specialist subject and point out all the errors

Grab a friend and go pretend dress shopping – for an occasion of your choice… prom, weddings, whatever you like. Take photos for Facebook!

Go to a big department store and have your makeup done by the sales girls

Search Amazon and eBay for some bargain box-sets… then watch they come!

Spring clean!

Buy fairy-lights

Go virtual-shopping, online, and make a long long long long looooong list of what you want. Promise yourself you’ll buy it all when you’re rich.

Practise all the catchphrases from Gavin and Stacey

Create random Facebook groups, and see how many people will join

Watch the out-takes and extras on all your DVDs

Text someone you haven’t written to in forever

Find your baby pictures and laugh at all your weird nineties-kid outfits… if you’re a nineties kid, that is!

Part 2 of the list is on Amy’s blog
