Love your body, it’s yours after all!

Sorry but I had to write this. I don’t understand it, Why are women still relying on fashion magazines to help them through their lives?

Today I bought a popular one, i wont name names and after reading it I felt disgusted among the things it tried to pass on to me were:

  • I should own indian style fringed boots and black embellished boots
  • I should be realistic abaout a weight loss resolution, but buy a dress in a smaller size to motivate me
  • I shouldn’t live beyond my means and be realistic with money, but they show me the most expensive items of clothing
  • I shouldn’t have unrealistic relationship goals but how I can make any man fall in love with me in 90 minutes.

These are obviously just a few examples but it’s not alot different across the boards. And it upsets me that some, not all, girls feel they have to live up to these expectations. But in fact with me these magazines have the opposite affect, they make me strive to find bargains similar to some of the featured products and how to make certain styles suit me more. And as for body image well they just mean I fight more to show my love for my body, yes I know it’s not perfect but it’s mine at the end of the day.

I wish more girls could say this, so that’s what I want you to do in this post, give yourself a compliment about your body.

don’t be shy ladies!

  5. Rachel says:

oh my god i cant believe this, I’m trying to help girls feel good about themselves and I’ve been reblogged using just the line “I should be realistic abaout a weight loss resolution, but buy a dress in a smaller size to motivate me”
that is not what this blog is about at all!

  6. Carys says:

i love my forehead. i used to get teased about it because it was bigger then everyone elses. but i hadnt finished growing. but now i have, it seems it suits my face just fine thank you very much, haterrs!
    love ya rach!

  7. Claire says:

    Right on.

It’s not likely to change, either, because magazines have to push a certain ‘lifestyle’ and promote ‘necessities’ to keep their advertisers. It’s a lot of bollocks, and that is why I abstain.

A compliment about m body.. well, since you asked, why fight it? I’m smokin’, lady!

(Oh also, haha, thanks for ganging up on Anonymous with me over on BSB!)

  8. Rachel says:

oh Claire! and you’re welcome, even if i did get immature telling them they were silly

and everyone else thank you so much so far, I’m gonna sound really big headed but I like my eyes, hair, legs, forehead (good one Carys by the way) AND waist. We should love our bodies.

  9. Claire says:

If I really had to choose… I’d say my eyes & hair (well only sometimes, when it behaves!)

  10. Rachel says:

oh clairey youve got lush hair, can i have it?

  11. Jess says:

Im slim, which a lot of people say theyd love my figure,
but to be honest, im kinda flat chested, so at 17, i doubt they really would.
but regardless of that i dont care, because at the end of the day-
the only people who are going to judge me, are people who are insecure with themselves right?
I cant quite pick something about my body i particularly like (and thats not me being big headed there, honestly) .

I loved what you said about the magazines- they tell you one thing – and do another basically.
Like you said. so excellent points.

  12. Renee says:

    Well.
My eyes are quite nice. Especially when i’m in a bright room because they’re really bright blue then.
